Following a survey of selling habits among normal Americans, ebay analysts have discovered that ebay is no longer the no.1 go-to venue for private individuals to sell their unwanted items. The survey concluded that this is because ebay no longer prioritise the private seller, with many sellers saying the site was now "just too complicated". An ebay spokesperson has countered this myth by expressing "we have nothing against private sellers and we welcome private sellers as much as we do big business".
The statistics don't lie though and a leaked report from ebay towers has revealed a new policy to help "bring back" the once-golden private seller:
An ebay lottery.
All buyers who make a purchase on the site will be awarded 'tickets' in accordance with how much they have spent. At the end of the month a 'draw' will take place and one lucky ticketholder will be given 500 free listings* of a 30 day duration. Mike Bazoomer of Global Fair Trade website Have You Read The Small Print has described the move as "sensational", going on to say "this is exactly what the private seller sector needs and should provide the kind of rejuvination in the site's popularity that hasn't been seen since '02".
ticket
I can't help but feel this move is a step in the right direction, for everyone involved, from buyers to sellers to shareholders as it will now give everyone a reason to buy on here once again after so many years of general depression.
*Subject to terms and conditions, any final value fees and paypal fees still apply along with the usual added fees of enhanced visibility and listing promotion.

And, assuming this is factual information, as kattinsanity states ..."How does this benefit the seller?". Even IF eBay were actually instituting this so called lottery, it would appear to be designed to attract NEW sellers, converting them from just buyers. Like eBay needs more sellers when they can't even provide equal exposure for listings from it's existing seller base.
Yeah, that is exactly what I thought this thread was going to be about, :smileyhappy:. This is about the stupidest thing.
- There are tons of free listing promotions already?
- Why do buyers need free listing promotions?
- How is this sensational?
It would make more sense if it was like a 500 dollar credit towards ebay fees or something. That would be really nice! Or if it was 500 dollars, that would help out sellers too, by giving buyers more buying power. Shoot, maybe even when a buyer won, they got approved for a 500 credit card, that would help sellers too! :smileyhappy: I'd buy some tickets... maybe purchase 1000 of those 0.01 auctions for random screen savers..
