How to Repair Leather Furniture

Things Needed for Leather Repair: Supply Item: Use: Gloves Protect Hands microfiber cloth To apply leather conditioner Soft, clean towel To wipe leather with various product new sponges to apply leather dye Spray bottles to mix and spray leather with product cotton balls to apply prep (nail polish remover) household dish soap to mix 5 drops in a spray bottle filled with plain water (makes safe cleaner) Lexol Leather conditioner to condition clean leather 1000 grit sandpaper to smooth away minor imperfections nail polish remover to "prep" (removes silicon so repair compound can adhere) small repair areas leather repair compound to fill in large scrapes/imperfections pallet knife smooth bendable knife to apply leather compound Leather Furniture Dye to restore and dye faded areas leather glue for small loosened areas of torn leather or loose decorative pieces (if any are present) hair dryer to cure leather repair compound and dry leather dye Leather Repair: What YOU Can Do Minor leather repairs and leather maintenance can be preformed by anyone, you won't need lots of training to handle the basics on your own. Large scale repairs and issues should be addressed by a professional, such as large scale damages, holes, burns, large rips or tears, or other severe problems. Leather Furniture Repair 101 Take a spray bottle, fill it with water, and add 5 drops of regular house hold dish soap. Shake thoroughly. Spray onto a clean towel and massage into the leather. Do this over the entire surface of leather furniture. Using hair dryer, ensure entire surface of leather is dry. Locate areas needing leather repairs Using cotton swab, use small amount of nail polish remover on damaged area, then dry thoroughly. This removes any silicon and residual oils on the leather's surface, which if are not removed may inhibit the leather repair compound from adhering properly. Use sandpaper to gently smooth scrapes or knicks on leather's surface. Use leather repair compound and pallet knife on freshly sanded areas to smooth over any small knicks or scrapes. If there are areas curling or peeling up, use tiny drop of leather glue to stick down and flatten area and allow to cure with heat. Use hair dryer to cure leather repair compound once you are satisfied with your smooth, even application. Apply leather furniture dye with a new sponge evenly and gently to restore faded areas of color loss and to dye over any leather repairs. CURE THOROUGHLY with heat from hair dryer, at least 30 seconds per section of dye, until it appears to be a matte finish, not shiny and wet. Apply leather top coat (provided with leather furniture dye kit) with new sponge. Cure thoroughly 30-60 seconds per section! PROTECT: Use LEXOL-LEATHER-Conditoner to protect leather. Spray onto a microfiber cloth and massage gently on to leather furniture to remoisturize leather. Use Lexol monthly or every 4-6 weeks to keep leather soft and clean.
